Trisdee na Patalung (b. 1986), who was "discovered" at 15 by
composer Somtow Sucharitkul, has become one of Thailand's most visible young
artists. His Symphony was recently premiered by the Bangkok Sinfonietta at a
royal command performance, and he is working on an opera, Cupid and Psyche,
which the Bangkok Opera will premiere next season. He is the Bangkok Opera's
resident repetiteur and last season repetiteured operas as diverse as The Magic
Flute, The Turn of the Screw, Dido and Aeneas, and the world premiere of Mae
Naak. He studies composition with Somtow Sucharitkul, under whom he recently
had his piano concerto debut in a well-received performance of Mozart's K. 488.
His conducting debut is planned this March, at Bangkok's annual Mozart and More
Mini-Festival. Leo Phillips, former leader of the London Symphony, has referred
to Trisdee as "one of the most promising musicians I have met in twenty
years."
